Our Teachers

Making YNSC heven

Meet the Teachers

We have some amazing people working at the Yorkton Nursery School Co-operative! Our teachers are responsible for every aspect of the class, from the weekly theme schedule to the daily activities for our students. Our teachers have created a caring, safe, fun atmosphere which allows each child to be comfortable and confident with their learning experience. The focus is to educate the whole child, emotionally, intellectually, physically, socially, and creatively.

All teachers that are employed by the Yorkton Nursery School Co-operative must have a minimum of a certificate or diploma from an accredited Early Childhood Education course, a teacher’s certificate, or a combination of education requirements and experience as deemed acceptable by the Board of Directors. All employees of the Yorkton Nursery School Co-operative also have up to date training in CPR/First Aid. Our teachers regularly participate in additional training, such as accreditation for Jolly Phonics or any other professional development that is beneficial for the programming of the school.

Mrs. Haider

Mrs. Haider joined the YNSC in 2006. She teaches in the 4-year-old program. Her educational background includes some university courses, a Rehabilitation Workers Certificate, and the Autism Spectrum Disorder Certificate. She also has many years of experience in various fields including work for Children’s Therapies, working as a teacher assistant, KidsFirst worker with the prenatal program, nurse's aid, activities director for a special needs facility, coaching various sports teams, and raising her own children. When she was young her dream was to be Miss Teen Yorkton or, if that didn’t work out, a teacher! Her favorite food at snack time is cupcakes! Her favourite things is having talk time at the circle mat at the beginning of every class. This provides a special time for students to tell their classmates anything that they would like to share with the group. The stories are priceless and speaking in front of your peers is such a great life skill!

Mrs. Thiessen

Mrs. Thiessen (or as the students call her, Mrs. T.) is the teacher of the 3-year-old program. She has spent most of her life working with children through various volunteer positions, childcare, and as an educational assistant. She has a passion for teaching children, as she loves watching them grow and expand their knowledge. She delights in children getting excited about learning! Mrs. T. has a science degree from the University of Saskatchewan, so she likes to geek-out while teaching all things science! She makes sure to work science into as many themes as she can, not just during science week! She also loves teaching literacy and number sense through songs, games, and play.

Ms. Janet

Ms. Janet is the educational assistant at the YNSC. Her time is shared between the 4-year-olds and the 3-year-olds. Her educational background includes a science degree from the University of Manitoba. She has worked with children in multiple paid and volunteer positions, before joining our staff in 2020. Her favorite children’s books are Mo Willems’ Piggy and Elephant series, and her favorite snack is apples, cheese, and crackers. She loves play time and circle time, listening to everyone’s stories and seeing unexpected smiles!
